Many people struggle with feeling out of control in their lives. They may feel like they are at the mercy of external forces, unable to influence or shape the events and circumstances that affect them.
This lack of control can lead to feelings of frustration, anxiety, and helplessness. It can be especially difficult when we encounter challenges or setbacks that seem beyond our control, such as natural disasters, economic downturns, or personal health issues.
One way to combat this sense of helplessness is to focus on the things that are within your sphere of control. These are the things that you have the power to change or influence, such as your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and actions. By recognizing that you have the ability to control these things, you can take ownership of your life and start to make positive changes. This can lead to a greater sense of agency and empowerment, helping you to feel more in control of your life and more able to cope with the challenges that come your way.

There's a Japanese proverb that goes, "The nail that sticks out gets hammered down." This is the essence of the idea of controlling what is within your sphere of control. Essentially, you can only worry about and focus on the things that you can actually do something about. Everything else is out of your hands. This doesn't mean you don't take action – it just means you take action knowing that you can only affect certain things. And by doing so, you limit your stress and anxiety because you're not worrying about things that are ultimately out of your control.


Definition of sphere of control


A sphere of control is the area of your life over which you have influence. It's the things that you can directly impact and change. Everything else is out of your hands. This doesn't mean you don't take action – it just means you take action knowing that you can only affect certain things. And by doing so, you limit your stress and anxiety because you're not worrying about things that are ultimately out of your control.


Now that you know what a sphere of control is, it's time to start thinking about how you can apply this concept to your own life. Here are some questions to get you started:


-What areas of your life are causing you stress?

-What do you feel like you can't control?

-What would happen if you let go of the need to control everything and just focused on the things that you can actually do something about?


Try to spend some time each day focusing on the things within your sphere of control. This may mean taking action steps to improve your life, or it may simply mean sitting with the knowledge that you can't control everything. Either way, by acknowledging and accepting your sphere of control, you'll be able to live a more peaceful and stress-free life.


In today's world, it's easy to get wrapped up in things that we can't control. The news is full of stories about things happening all over the world that we have no influence over. Social media can make it seem like everyone else is living perfect lives while we're struggling. And our own personal lives can be full of stressors that we can't do anything about, like difficult family members or a challenging job.


It's important to remember that we only have so much energy and focus. We can't control everything, no matter how much we might want to. And trying to do so will just lead to us feeling overwhelmed and stressed out. So instead, we need to focus our attention on the things that we can control.


For example, we can't control the weather, but we can control how we dress for it. We can't control whether or not someone else is having a bad day, but we can control our own reactions. We can't control what other people think of us, but we can control how we think of ourselves.


Focusing on what we can control doesn't mean ignoring the rest of the world. We still need to be aware of what's going on around us. But it does mean letting go of the things that we can't do anything about and instead focus our energy on the things that we can.


What are some things that you can control? Make a list of them and then focus your attention on those things. You'll be surprised at how much better you'll feel when you're not worrying about the things that you can't do anything about. And who knows, by taking control of the things within your sphere of control, you might just find that you have a little more influence over the things that are outside of it.
