Breaking Down Barriers To Create A More Equal Society
My paternal grandfather was the mayor of the Indian city of Hyderabad. He was also a magistrate and had strong ties to the federal government at the time. My father was in the hospitality industry and was a frequent speaker. My grandfather found a job as a security guard at an Islamic bookstore when my family immigrated to Canada for a better life for my brother and me. My father found employment as an arcade coin dispenser.
My family did what was necessary for my brother and me. And their investment, with God's blessings, paid off.
However, I occasionally wondered what would have been possible if their skills and expertise had been valued and taken at par.
Similarly, while working in warehouses or call center environments during the summers, I met several former business owners, managers, doctors, engineers, etc. Because their education or experience was not valued, they were working in jobs where they were greatly underutilized. This was a loss for not only the country but for them also.
I can understand why certain professions require retraining to meet local requirements. For many other professions, however, the skills, experience, and effort put forward are devalued.
Benefits of hiring someone from another country
1. They often have experience working in other countries, which gives them a global perspective.
2. They are often more open-minded and tolerant of different cultures and beliefs.
3. They can offer a unique perspective, as their experience may be different from someone who grew up in the same country.
4. They may have skills and experience that are valuable and not easily found in the local workforce.
5. They may be willing to work for lower wages than someone from the local workforce, making it more affordable to hire them.
Regardless of where you come from, you have something valuable to bring to the table. You deserve the same chances and opportunities as anyone else.
We should not let the fact that someone who studied abroad or at a local college versus an ivy league school affect their capability to do their job. Just because you studied at an Indian university does not make your degree any less than someone who studied at a Canadian university. And just because you work in Indian companies does not mean that your skills and experiences are any less than those who worked in Canadian companies.
Likewise, with the exceptions of certain professions that do require re-certification to meet local standards, many other individuals should be recognized for their diverse skills and experiences and brought into the fold so they can offer their unique perspectives. We all have something valuable to bring to the table, regardless of where we come from. We all deserve the same chances and opportunities as anyone else, and we should have our backgrounds or past experiences prevent us from achieving our goals.
In this blog, we will discuss the following topics:
1. Breaking down barriers to create a more equal society
2. Why it's important to break down barriers
3. Examples of how barriers have prevented people from achieving their goals
4. How we can work together to break down barriers
Breaking down barriers to create a more equal society
The purpose of this blog is to introduce the topic of breaking down barriers to create a more equal society. We will discuss why it is important to break down barriers, share personal stories or examples of how barriers have prevented people from achieving their goals, and offer solutions on how we can work together to break down barriers. In conclusion, we will call on everyone to take action and do their part in breaking down these barriers.
Why it's important to break down barriers
Breaking down barriers is important because it allows everyone to have the same chances and opportunities, regardless of their background or experience. Everyone deserves to be given a fair chance to succeed, and no one should be held back because of where they come from.
Examples of how barriers have prevented people from achieving their goals
There are many examples of how barriers can prevent people from achieving their goals. For instance, people who have experience working in other countries may be devalued when they try to enter the workforce in their new country. This is because their skills and experience are not seen as being valuable or relevant. Additionally, people from minority groups may face discrimination when applying for jobs or promotions. This can make it difficult for them to move up in their careers, even if they are qualified for the position.
How we can work together to break down barriers
There are many ways that we can work together to break down these barriers. For instance, we can become more aware of our own biases and work to correct them. Additionally, we can advocate for policies that are more inclusive of everyone, regardless of their background or experience. Finally, we can support organizations that are working to break down these barriers and create a more equal society.
It is important for everyone to do their part in breaking down these barriers. We all have something valuable to contribute, and we should not let our backgrounds or experiences hold us back. Let's work together to break down these barriers and create a more equal and inclusive society for everyone!
