"I've died a thousand times, reincarnating each time as someone brighter, stronger, and purer. In the middle of devastation, I became my own maker. "I became my own source of light from the depths of darkness." — Cristen Rodgers
Why is change so challenging for us? Possibly due to the phenomena known as Status Quo Bias, which is your innate aversion to alter your existing behavior. People have a natural reluctance to doing anything other than what they are now doing. The Status Quo Bias is a cognitive bias that generates a subconscious lethargy that must be addressed.
How many of you are aware that drinking is unhealthy? However, only after being diagnosed with liver disease do people decide to quit.
How many of you are aware that smoking is unhealthy? However, only after being diagnosed with lung cancer do smokers decide to quit.
How many of you recognize the importance of spending quality time with your wife and children? However, only after a divorce can one resolve to become a better family person.
When there is no compelling reason to change, the status quo bias takes over.
We require a means of disrupting the present status quo, emphasizing their desire for change, and constructing a vision that enhances our lives.
While coaching and mentoring can assist some individuals in proactively altering their behavior, many others require painful events to see the need for change.
